My Gal Sunday, which begins production this week in Vancouver, is based on the book of short stories by Mary Higgins Clark. The drama focuses on attorney/PI Sandra “Sunday” O’Brien-Parker (Blanchard) and her new husband/partner Henry Parker (Mathison), whose deep political ties and romance put them at the center of intrigue and scandal. Clark’s daughter, Carol, and granddaughter Elizabeth also co-star.

Sunday hails from Entertainment One. Howard Burkons (The Ron Clark Story) and Brenda Friend (Joan of Arc), as well as Entertainment One’s Ira Pincus (Goodnight for Justice) and John Morayniss (Klondike), will executive produce. Randy Cheveldave will produce, while Jonathan Schwartz is on board as a supervising producer. K.T. Donaldson (Tom Dick & Harriet) will direct from the script from Burkons.

Sunday marks Hallmark’s latest entry into original scripted programming. The cabler greenlighted its first effort with Andie MacDowell‘s Cedar Cove, which — like Sunday and Dead Letters — started as a two-hour TV movie. Its second series, When Calls the Heart starring Jean Smart and Lori Loughlin, bows in January. Calls received an order for six episodes, with a decision on expanding its count to 13 expected to come soon. The network is looking to The Mystery Cruise starring Gail O’Grady or Sunday to serve as its fourth potential scripted series.

Wagner (General Hospital, Melrose Place) is repped by APA and Nelson Davis; Blanchard (Snakes on a Plane, Road Trip, Where the Truth Lies) is with Don Buchwald & Associates and Luber Roklin; Mathison (54, The Surrogate) is with WME and Glick.

A premiere date has yet to be announced.
